RCE: An Integration Environment for Engineering and Science

Engineering complex systems such as air- and spacecraft is a multidisciplinary effort that requires the collaboration of engineers from multitude specializations working in concert. Typically, each engineer uses one or more specialized software tools to analyze some data set passes, an ad-hoc manner, results on their colleagues who require these input for respective tools. This process time-consuming, error-prone, not replicable. To alleviate this problem, we present RCE (Remote Component Environment), open-source application developed primarily at DLR, enables its users intuitively integrate disciplinary tools, define dependencies between them via easy-to-use graphical interface, execute resulting engineering workflow. All produced are stored centrally provenance, subsequent analysis, post-processing. Hence, makes it easy collaborating contribute individual design simplifies analysis workflow’s results.
